I thought he did a great job at capturing the tone of FSF's novel. He's so good at showing glitzy artifice with a darker reality beneath and that worked perfectly for Gatsby as did his sledgehammer approach to mise-en-scene. DiCaprio was good, as ever. He was so perfectly awkward in that first scene with Daisy (I still think that Oscar is WAY overdue!). Plus, the fidelity to the novel means I can use the film in English Lit lessons.Helen Mearshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01917649741436419169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7492693833498714269.post-62029969329643046342013-08-23T09:09:46.637+01:002013-08-23T09:09:46.637+01:00This is cool! This is cool!Charliehttp://bestrowingmachinereviews.us/2013/08/15/tip-3/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7492693833498714269.post-58883813519043048692013-08-13T05:04:32.288+01:002013-08-13T05:04:32.288+01:00Hi,

I didn't think it was special and Cruise was ActionCruise. Loved all the technology, the sky house, etc and the droids put me in mind of Terrahawks. But what made it for me was Andrea Riseborough. How can an actress just be THAT good - poised but heartbreaking and somehow translucent on the screen? Reluctant though I am to compare people she put me in mind of Helen Mirren at her most precise.

Anyway, that's me pennethworth, Craig. I think the term "genuine delight" is perfect for this film, which was one of my favorites from 2012. I'm a big Stillman fan, so it's not a big surprise that I liked it. Even so, it still surprised me and felt a bit different than his other movies. I'm glad you liked it after not being a huge fan of his other films. Best Exotic is better seen through a comedy filter, I reckon. I'm especially glad to see Kate both because I think her comedic ability is often underrated, and because her work in CARNAGE too was generally forgotten or not mentioned by most. Strident, abrasive, unsettling but ultimately rewarding comedic word (brittle as the character was).Andrew K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/01104647944747041277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7492693833498714269.post-14200152158991139022012-12-30T18:49:20.154+00:002012-12-30T18:49:20.154+00:00I'm afraid I wasn't much of a fan of her p...I'm afraid I wasn't much of a fan of her performance in that film. #21 was probably Sarah Paulson in Martha Marcy May Marlene.Craig Bloomfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01675432352369719901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7492693833498714269.post-53216356086905324542012-12-29T11:39:39.987+00:002012-12-29T11:39:39.987+00:00#21.
